About This Place

Nestled just off the Natchez Trace Parkway in charming French Camp, Mississippi, Council House Restaurant offers an inviting escape into the heart of Southern comfort food. As soon as you step inside this unassuming yet welcoming spot at 55 Le Fleur Circle, you’re embraced by a warm, cozy atmosphere that blends rustic charm with thoughtful touches — from the crackling fireplace indoors to the dreamy outdoor seating under the trees.

The culinary experience here is nothing short of memorable, showcasing traditional Southern flavors crafted with care and authenticity. One cannot talk about Council House without mentioning their famously addictive Big Ed’s BLT—each bite toasted on homemade bread and slathered with house-made garlic mayo, a twist that elevates this classic sandwich to new heights. Customers rave about subbing out the usual fries for their crispy, golden onion rings, which many declare the best they've tasted anywhere.

For hearty appetites, the restaurant’s Barbecue Chicken Plate comes with all the fixings: tangy coleslaw, smoky baked beans, moist cornbread, and a luscious peach cobbler that tastes like a warm Southern hug. Fans of seafood will find the Catfish Platter irresistible, featuring perfectly fried cornmeal-and-cornflour-breaded catfish paired with delicate French fries. Every bite echoes the freshness and simplicity that Southern cooking does best.

Start your meal with loaded cheese fries or nachos, irresistibly topped with smoky pulled pork or spicy Southwest chicken, offering a delightful melding of textures and flavors. The kitchen also serves up soulful classics like the Country Fried Steak and the ever-popular Toasted Pimento & Cheese, both delivering decades-old recipes done right.

The dining area’s ambiance is more than just visual — it’s a sensory delight. Imagine savoring a club sandwich by the fireplace while the soft murmur of friendly chatter fills the air, or enjoying a quiet lunch on the outdoor patio bathed in sunlight. Customers consistently highlight the attentive and charming staff, with service making every visit feel personal and warm.

Adding to its unique appeal, Council House includes a quaint gift shop filled with local crafts and delectable Southern treats such as frog jam, apple butter, and homemade chocolates — perfect for bringing a piece of Mississippi home with you.

Whether you’re passing through or planning a special stop, Council House Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking genuine Southern hospitality paired with dishes that comfort the soul and delight the palate. It’s a place where every meal tells a story of tradition, care, and unforgettable flavor.

What a wonderful spot! Right off the Trace, this seemingly small spot opens into a beautiful eating area with a cozy fireplace and dreamy outdoor seating option. The BLT and Club are set apart from all the others you’ve had because they use homemade bread and a house garlic mayo. We subbed onion rings and they might be the best I’ve ever eaten! I would also 100% recommend the broccoli salad- just try it and then go to the gift shop and buy the recipe cards!

My wife and I had the blue plate special for the day which consisted of barbecue chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, and peach cobbler. We love the meal. Our server Savannah was charming and kind. We loved the butcher block paper on the tables. It really added a special touch for me. There was a nice gift shop in the house and we took advantage of that as well. All this proceeds went to help with the childrens home there. One sure fire way to tell if you are at a good restaurant is to check out the restrooms. They were extremely clean. That means that the kitchen must be clean. We were very pleased with our experience at the council house. Great job by the entire staff.

Atmosphere was perfect and the food was great. Wanted to try so many things but decided to go with a sandwich which was perfect on the homemade bread. Will definitely go back every time I'm in the area.

Friend said the cheeseburger and Mississippi Mud Cake were the best ever had. My catfish plate (cornmeal/corn flour breaded) was similarly outstanding. Very sweet wait staff do a great job. There is also a gift shop with crafts and interesting food items for sale (i.e., frog jam, apple butter, cookies, chocolates). The setting can't be beat! Highly recommend this stop on the gorgeous, historic Natchez Trace.

I had a pulled pork sandwich with side salad, others in my party had club sandwich with onion rings, the fried fish platter and the chicken salad. All was fantastic. We stop here often when we go up the trace.

A great stop along the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway. The restaurant was added on to a historic building, so there is plenty of room for guests. There is outdoor eating available on a deck, but I've never sat outside. There are separate lunch and dinner menus. At lunch on a weekday, I enjoyed the catfish po-boy with broccoli salad, which was tasty and filling. Diners pay in the gift shop, which offers regional foods (jams, etc.) and a good selection of pottery items made by local students and other crafted items. There is plenty of parking and an accessibility ramp as well as stairs leading into the restaurant.

We arrived to French Camp on a Saturday evening - knowing that Council House was our only option for a restaurant. It didn't disappoint! I ordered the Toasted Pimento Cheese Sandwich with a side salad. My husband ordered the roast beef po boy with fries. Both were good! and just the right amount of food for dinner. We also had the cheese curds for an appetizer. Desserts were Mississippi mud cake and lemon icebox pie - OH SO GOOD!
